Current Exhibits
The following list represents just a few of the many projects around the world being initiated and developed with the Lowell Milken Center. These projects are now exhibits at the Lowell Milken Center. Each project has outcomes, which causes students to change attitudes and behavior. Projects will continue to be added to this list, and more information, photos and materials will be added to each project as it grows and evolves.
*NEW* African American History of Fort Scott
Bourbon County, Kansas
Developed by the Lowell Milken Center in collaboration with several elementary schools in Fort Scott, Kansas, this project teaches respect. This exhibit displays the vast history from Gordon Parks, to George Washington Carver, to present citizen, Robert Nelson, the black community in this region has a fascinating past.
The Amish of Bourbon County
Bourbon County, Kansas
Developed by the Lowell Milken Center in collaboration with several elementary schools in Fort Scott, Kansas, this project teaches respect for a unique local cultural community, through classroom sessions and photographic exhibits.
Ken and Ann: Miss McGalin's Speech Class
Little Rock, Arkansas
Two unsung heroes who touched the lives of nine black students at Little Rock Central in 1957-58, provide the topic for this story. Ken Reinhardt and Ann Williams can teach us all about understanding. Their story is one of making a difference on a daily basis.
Life in a Jar
Bourbon County, Kansas
The Life in a Jar project has been called one of the “finest educational projects in American history.” Students from Bourbon County and the Lowell Milken Center continue their effort to share the story of Holocaust heroine Irena Sendler.

Bourbon County, Kansas
The Osage ruled the territory of Southern Missouri, Eastern Kansas, Northern Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma for five hundred years and more. Our next exhibit will feature this fascinating Native American tribe. .
Seeking the Jewish Legacy of Fort Scott, Kansas
Fort Scott, Kansas
To inform and educate people about the Jewish history of Bourbon County, local students will be involved in an art contest involving drawings of the local Jewish cemetery. Various people from the community are also contributing portrait sketches and photographic displays. Students from the Fort Scott Middle School will complete a multidisciplinary project using genealogy and research. A special evening showing of the exhibit for the community will be forthcoming.
