The following list represents just a few of the many projects around the world being initiated and developed with the Lowell Milken Center. These projects are in various stages of development. Each project has outcomes, which causes students to change attitudes and behavior. Projects will continue to be added to this list, and more information, photos and materials will be added to each project as it grows and evolves.


An Anthology of Essays About Unsung Heroes
Lowell Milken Center

The students of 2009 Milken Fellow, Sarah Powley, will be developing unsung hero stories during the coming school year. The outcome for this project will be a published anthology.


Changing the World: Films of Tolerance
Bloomington, Indiana

The students of Jeff Rudkin, Milken Educator in 2007, are working on numerous filmmaking projects concerning the Holocaust and respect. The Center is featuring the work of this outstanding educator and will connect other educators who want to replicate his work.


*NEW* The Heroes Project
Lowell Milken Center

California teacher, Suzanne Scotten is a 2005 Milken Educator; she is developing film projects with her students and with the Lowell Milken Center. She is using her grant writing ability and technology to challenge and inspire her junior high students.


*NEW* Lakota Sioux Nation Unsung Heroes
Knollwood Heights Elementary School, Rapid City, South Dakota

Cary Roller, Milken Educator, '08, is developing a core values unsung hero project which features the history of the Lakota nation. This first grade teacher is currently seeking native Americans from the Rapid City area which match core values. She can be contacted through the Lowell Milken Center. More information will be coming soon.

The Lowell Milken Center is working with Vanessa Martinez to create a story about her career and life. She is a 2008 Milken Educator from Kansas. Vanessa is not only an outstanding educator, but a role model for a diverse school.

The Lowell Milken Center is collaborating on a project that will feature the career path of a 2000 Milken Educator from North Dakota. Pam Rettig has experienced life altering situations throughout her career as an educator. Look for updates in the future.
