Lt. Colonel Tran Ngoc Hue
Lt. Colonel Tran Ngoc “Harry” Hue is a former lieutenant colonel with the 1st Infantry Division Army of the Republic of Vietnam who received the Silver Star, the highest award for heroism on the battlefield that the American military can grant an allied soldier, as well as two Bronze Stars for Valor.

July 2017 Update: Thanks to the discovery of Lt. Colonel Tran Ngoc “Harry” Hue by Susan Sittenauer and her Seaman High School students, this Unsung Hero has been receiving more well-deserved recognition. Author Mark Bowden this month released a book called “Hue 1968,” depicting the battle in which Harry saved countless U.S. Marines, got badly injured, and was taken prisoner for 13 years. Harry’s story is an integral part of the book, which will also be turned into a television series. In addition, Ken Burns and Lynn Novick recently completed a documentary about Vietnam, in which Harry appears, that will premiere on PBS on September 17, 2017. Full PBS broadcast details available here.
